#86: From emancipated teenager paying her way through college to a successful real-estate agent!

My friend Heather shares her story of being a teenager without a supportive home life who craved a future different from her parents. Unlike many of my guests, Heather made the decision at a young age to rewrite her script and chart a different path.

  1. Life will send helpers your way. BUT you may have to put yourself in awkward situations and reach out and call someone you barely know. You have to be willing to put yourself out there and ask for help.

  2. If you're forcing a path you think you need to be successful but it's excruciatingly hard (like a business degree felt to Heather), you need to take a hard look at whether or not this is the right path for you.

  3. Look around you, who do you aspire to be like? Do you want to end up like the people around you? Do you have a desire to create a different and better life? If you don't have a built-in supportive network, create one with mentors and supporters.

  4. Ask yourself if you're providing the kind of awesome service you'd want someone else to provide to you or your family members. This intention will show up in how you genuinely care about and give to your customers. Chances are good they'll tell their friends about you and become raving fans.

  5. If you have kids and work full-time, you only get 3-4 hours a day with your kids, guard this and don't let down your boundaries.
